Trek Packing List

Here is an equipment list for Trek ~

Equipment List

What shall I bring in my bucket?

Adult and Youth Trekker Bucket List

  • Work gloves
  • 1 small hand towel
  • Mess Kit:  plate (old pie tin works great), cup, spork
  • Small package of baby wipes: will be used for body cleaning throughout the trek
  • Comb and/or hairbrush
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Personal hygiene items, deodorant
  • Small personal first-aid kit
  • Moleskin for blisters
  • 1 small flashlight with fresh batteries (a headlamp is ideal)
  • Basic sunglasses (nothing fancy, loud, or obnoxious please!)
  • Optional: Small bendable pocket knife
  • Sunscreen
  • 1 sturdy 20-oz. (or similar size) water bottle
  • A small container of hand sanitizer
  • Book of Mormon in a Ziploc bag
  • NO CONTACT LENSES (if possible) it's very dusty and windy.  If you must wear contacts, make sure to wear good sunglasses for protection
  • NO CELL PHONES.  Take the opportunity to unplug and really feel the spirit and hear that still small voice. There will be a photographer there who will capture moments, but feel free to bring a camera along.

    Bedroll
    • Sleeping Pad:  You may bring a backpacking-style sleeping pad if you wish.  Cots, air mattresses and big foam pads will take up too much room and should not be taken on the trek as they will not be accepted at check-in.
    • 1 warm sleeping bag - that will keep you warm at an outside temperature of 40 degrees. A sleeping bag liner or small fleece blanket can be added to an existing bag to increase its warmth. Do not plan to bring large or heavy blankets as there is not enough space to transport them.
    • 2 MIL Plastic Drop Cloth or comparable:   This plastic will serve as a ground cover and should be large enough to lay your sleeping bag in the center and have enough for 1/3 of the plastic on either side to fold over, protecting your sleeping bag from rain.
    • Please roll up your coat and "stay warm" items (coat, beanie, socks) in your sleeping bag, along with sleeping pad if you bring one, roll in plastic, and tie with rope. Please have your sleeping bag rolled up tightly in the plastic, tied with rope and labeled with your name.

    Ma and Pa Equipment List

(Does not need to fit in the bucket.)

    • Lighter/matches
    • (3) 4-5 man tents (one each for Ma&Pa, the boys, and the girls)
    • Scissors
    • Clorox/Baby wipes
    • 2 flashlights with extra batteries
    • Vial of consecrated oil
    • Spray bottle with fan
    • Wristwatch (no electricity to charge cell phones)
    • Campfires ARE allowed!  The stake is providing the wood.  You will need to bring matches and lighter fluid and roasting sticks enough for your family.  The stake has already planned desserts each night, but you may bring stuff for s'mores.  Teens also like roasting starbursts chews, Rollo's candy, or Reese's miniature candies (or anything really) squished inside a marshmallow.

    Each Handcart must have:

    • small cooler for lunches and for other supplies
    • buckets
    • one 5-gallon jug with a spigot with water for drinking
    • one 5-gallon bucket with water 1/2 full for cooling off
    • sponges for the cooling-off bucket (optional)
    • Tarp
    • Toilet paper (4 rolls for emergency on the trail)
    • Small shovel
    • 25-foot rope for handcart
    • First aid kit (plenty of Band-Aids, moleskins, and feminine hygiene products)
